I haven’t been able to post anything personal lately, but I thought it’d be fun to come up with my top 10 for last year. So here it is:
10. Dragon Age 2
Although this was a huge disappointment, I still enjoyed it the first time through. It definitely had one of the best stories of the year until copout at the very end. Hopefully BioWare will pull through in the next iteration.
9. Dead Space 2
The first scene set the bar so high for the rest of the game, and Visceral definitely delivered. I’ve never experienced such a heightened amount of tension before.
8. Catherine
It’s refreshing to play a game with these mature themes, and I loved the sim aspects of this game even though the puzzle elements aren’t really my thing. I’m looking forward to more from Atlus.
With a new studio and an iteration on a franchise over a decade old, I was thoroughly surprised when I got my hands on the final product. A great example of how you can still enjoy a game that puts a heavy emphasis on nonlethal means.
6. Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Two classics that stand the test of time. There aren’t any other experiences quite like these.
5. Star Wars: The Old Republic
Feeding off my nostalgia of kotor, I had such a blast grinding through quests and leveling up my character. My major complaint is that the middle part of the story is such a slog.
4. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
One of those AAA titles that I was dying to play as soon as I got my PS3. Naughty Dog ended the series so well. I’m still loving the multiplayer.
I cannot even begin to describe how batshit crazy this game is. I loved every single moment of this game.
2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I played Oblivion and didn’t like it that much, but I haven’t experienced so much fun in an open world game since Fallout 3. Bethesda finally got it down after 15+ years of iterating on this formula.
Narrowing this down to ten wasn’t hard at all, but thinking about what would be my number one brought me to BF3. I haven’t touched anything other than the multiplayer and I’m still loving it.
